The Medina City fire department is seeking high school students interested in joining the Medina Junior Volunteer Fire Department program. Students who participate in this program will be afforded the opportunity to drill with the fire department and learn valuable skills that would benefit those considering a career as a first responder. Those interested in joining, please sign the interest sheet in the main office by Wednesday, October 14, 2020.
Sunday, 10/4/2020 at a special called School Board meeting, the board voted unanimously to continue the full Friday planning sessions. They plan to revisit this issue during the December board meeting.
SGCHS Parent/Teacher Conference:
SGCHS will have Parent/Teacher Conference on Tuesday, October 13 from 3pm-6pm and Thursday, October 15 from 3pm-6pm. Due to Covid procedures, parents will need to email teachers to schedule a time to have a conference via phone call or video. Please email teachers by October 8 if you are wanting to setup a time with a teacher.
Digital Learning Academy 2nd Quarter open enrollment will be October 2-12, 2020. Any student that wants to participate in the Digital Learning Academy for the 2nd Quarter must register via the link below. Seniors:
The deadline to complete TN Promise application is November 2nd. This is a firm deadline set by the State of TN and there are no exceptions. Every senior needs to complete the TN Promise application. Instructions were placed in your child’s senior packet on the right hand side. Also, the 20-21 FAFSA opens today, October 1st. We will have someone at the school to help you on October 20th and 21st. More details will be sent out closer to those dates.
Please remember that seniors need to be applying to colleges. Colleges have deadlines and it is very important that you don’t miss those. Once you apply, you will request that your transcript be sent through parchment.com. If you have any questions, please reach out to Amanda Cross at ancross@gcssd.org.
A representative from Balfour will be at SGCHS on October 29 at 10:45am to present information to our seniors regarding senior graduation supplies such as caps, gowns, and announcements. Orders will be taken on November 4. Additional information will be shared closer to time.

Please don’t forget that we have free ACT tutoring at SGCHS for seniors. The detailed schedule has been posted on our social media outlets. The ACT test will be given at SGCHS on Tuesday, September 22, free of charge. Please keep in mind that in order to receive your high school diploma all seniors will need to take the ACT. If you are a senior Digital Learner, you are expected to report to school on September 22 by 7:45am. Registration for this exam is not required. Don’t forget to complete the form by Thursday, September 17 if you are needing to borrow a calculator the day of the ACT. All seniors will be able to leave campus once all testing is complete.

The Balfour Representative was at our school yesterday and gave Juniors and other interested students information regarding ordering a class ring and/or letter jacket. Mr. Williams will be returning on Thursday, September 24th, from 10:30-11:30 a.m., to meet with Digital Learning students to place orders. After meeting with Digital students, Mr. Williams will meet with in-person learning students in the cafeteria during their scheduled lunch time to place their orders. Also, order packets can be pick up on the table outside of the school office in the front foyer. Please contact the main office if you have any questions.

Senior Parents:
Mrs. Cross has created a Class of 2021 course in Schoology for your child. Your child needs to look at it daily. All announcements that are typically made at school will be posted on Schoology in the Class of 2021 under course. Currently, there are 2 posts, one requiring a response from your child. Please encourage your child to complete the senior questionnaire by this Friday, September 4th. Also, yearbooks are on sale through Labor Day. The price is $65. Please be sure to check your email from Holland Studio and choose your senior pictures for the yearbook. The last announcement is that all seniors will come to SGCHS on Tuesday, September 22nd to take the ACT, this includes digital learners. More detailed information will be provided in the next couple of weeks.
USDA has released COVID-19 flexibilities to allow ALL children 18 years and under to receive free breakfast and lunch through the school meal program. This decision will help ensure children have access to nutritious meals as the country recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The new flexibility is effective September 1, 2020, and will extend through December 31, 2020. Check out the News section for more information!
Middle School Road is closed due to construction. Car drivers will be dismissed at SGCHS at 2pm today. Car riders will be dismissed at 2:15pm today. Bus riders will be dismissed at regular time. Again, please remember that middle school road is closed and you will need to travel on Mt. Zion and 152.
Hornet Fans
This season, all fans will be required to have a temperature check at the gate. Those with a temperature of 100.4 or higher will not be permitted to enter. Masks will also be required for entry and while inside of the stadium or field. Fans are also expected to practice social distancing in the stands, as well as the area around the field. Child play in the areas around the field will not be permitted, in order to maintain social distancing. No outside food or drink is allowed.
This season, all sales of individual game tickets for athletic events will be done digitally. Fans wishing to buy tickets will need to go to www.gofan.co/app/school/TN51104 and locate the event for which they want to purchase tickets. Once the tickets are purchased, fans will simply present their tickets on their smartphone at the ticket gate the day of the event, where it will be validated by a gate worker. Detailed instructions for using the GoFan system can be found at www.gofan.co. Fans can also download the GoFan app on their smartphone. Digital tickets for home varsity football games will not be available for purchase until Monday at 12:00 pm the week of the game.
Tickets for all other events can be purchased at any time. No tickets will be sold or cash accepted at the gate.
Concessions at the game will be limited to drinks, candy, and prepackaged items only. Cash will still be accepted for concessions. However, we are excited to announce the ability to accept credit or debit cards for concession purchases.
