Date Updated: SGCHS will be hosting tryouts for Boys Soccer on Friday, July 30th from 8-9:30 am. Students that are interested but currently play football do not need to attend. Those trying out will need to bring a completed physical form in order to participate.

Any SGCHS student who did not pickup their laptop can come to SGCHS on July 26 from 8am-12 or July 28 from 12-3:30pm. A parent/guardian and the student must be present. Please bring the $25 technology fee when you come to pickup your laptop.

Students need to do the following: 1. Register for school on PowerSchool. If you don’t know how, see social media or website for specific directions. This must be done before you can pick up a laptop. 2. Pick up your laptop from the SGCHS library media center at the designated time. See schedule found below for date and time. Both student AND a parent must come and bring $25 tech fee (cash or check). 3. Drop off 2 proofs of residency (lease, mortgage, utility bill, property tax document, or cable bill) when you pick up your laptop. There are grade level boxes in the main lobby. Put your proofs in an envelope with your name, grade, and HR teacher’s name. 4. Schedule for Laptop Pick Up: Class of 2022 (12th): Mon., 7/19, 3-7 PM Class of 2023 (11th): Tues., 7/20, 3-7 PM Class of 2024 (10th): Wed., 7/21, 3-7 PM Class of 2025 (9th):: Thurs., 7/22, 3-7 PM Questions: Call the school at 783-0999.

Please note the following information regarding the 1:1 program for school issued laptops: 1) Online student registration should be complete BEFORE coming to pick up your student's laptop. 2) Personal devices will not be allowed to be used for the 1:1 Program. GCSSD devices are configured to seamlessly work within our network, ensure complete program/software access, and are designed to be safe and secure through filtering software. Identical devices for all students also will allow for ease of material distribution and maintenance/support/repair for teachers, staff and students. 3) If you are unable to attend on your assigned pick-up night, an alternative time will be announced on Friday, July 23. Please check back on regular information outlets for the day and time.

Students will now have the opportunity to receive a laptop for their educational needs while at school and home. In order to receive a laptop, online registration must be complete, students and a parent/guardian must sign a contract in person, and a district technology fee of $25 must be paid by cash or check. Students and parents/guardians can pick up issued laptops, sign contracts, and pay fees on the following dates at SGCHS: Class of 2022 (12th): Monday, July 19 from 3-7pm Class of 2023 (11th): Tuesday, July 20 from 3-7pm Class of 2024 (10th): Wednesday, July 21 from 3-7pm Class of 2025 (9th): Thursday, July 22 from 3-7pm If you have any questions before these nights, call the front office at 783-0999.

SGCHS is a National Testing Site for ACT. The deadline to register for the September 11th ACT is August 6th. If you are planning on taking the ACT in September, please register at myact.org as soon as possible to ensure you receive a spot. Seats will be limited.

GCSSD is happy to report that we have been selected to participate in the Second Harvest Summer Backpack Feeding Program. This grant is funded by the “Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation” and will provide free breakfast and lunch daily this summer beginning Tuesday, June 1 through Monday, June 28, 2021. Food will be sent home with eligible students attending the Summer Learning Camp or may be picked up with food from the cafeteria at Dyer School or South Gibson County Elementary School (SGCES). Food will also be available for pick-up at Dyer School and SGCES on June 21st from 1:30—2:30 by families associated with any school in GCSSD. We were informed this morning by TDOE that we will not be receiving all 3-8 and EOC TNReady scores until June 10. We are required to count TNReady scores if they are returned within 5 business days of the last day of school. Since the state did not meet this deadline, we are not required to count the test scores in the overall student average. We recognize the need to finalize student grades. Therefore, we will not count spring TNReady scores. This will allow teachers to finalize grades at this time. Report cards will be finalized by June 3.

GCSSD will receive TNReady scores on May 28, 2021. Your students TNReady score is added as a part of their Q4 grade. The score will only be added to the students grade if the score will improve the students overall grade. Teachers will be adding those scores to the gradebook on or before June 4, 2021. Grades will then be finalized and report cards will be posted via PowerSchool Parent Portal on June 7, 2021.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCMENT: If your child qualified for our Summer Camp Program, he/she received a letter of conformation on Monday. The letter must be returned to your child's teacher no later than Wednesday, May 21st.

SGCHS New Student Registration Location: SGCHS Media Center *To register your child, you will need 2 approved proofs of residence ( 1 needs to be a mortgage or lease and 1 needs to be a utility bill). The Bass Fishing Team will hold an informational meeting on Monday, May 10 at 7 pm in the Media Center of the SGC High School. This meeting is for anyone interested in joining the South Gibson County Bass Fishing Team this next school year. We will discuss what is required to be eligible to fish and what you should expect if you are apart of the Bass Fishing Team. We have 2 classifications that fish, High School and Juniors. Please attend this meeting if you are interested in being a part of a growing sport in Tennessee.

SGCHS Awards Program for 9th-11th grades will be held on Tuesday, May 11 in the SGCHS gymnasium. Students, including DL, being recognized will be notified by their 1st block teacher. Family is invited and will sit in the home section of the gym. Masks must be worn and social distancing guidelines followed. Tuesday, May 11, 2021 9th Grade: 8:30am 10th -11th Grades: 9:30am Please Note: Students will sit in alphabetical order and stand when their name is called. All recognitions for that student will be announced at one time. Family in attendance may take a photo while the student is standing at his/her chair. Students will be dismissed back to class immediately after the program allowing us to prepare for the next program.
